Øystein Linnebo

Øystein is a Professor of Philosophy at the University of Oslo. having previously been held Professorial positions at Aberdeen and Birkbeck, London, and Research Fellowships at the Universities of Oxford and Oslo. He obtained a PhD from Harvard in 2002.

Øystein's main research interests are in the philosophies of logic and mathematics, and metaphysics.

His vast and growing philosophical output has helped to shape the philosophy of mathematics in many areas. Øystein's mirroring theorem in his (2010), showing how actualist mathematics can be translated into modal potentialism played a central role in reawakening interest in potentialism. He has published many papers and books on the topic including several coauthored with other conference presenters.
