Title: Arbitrariness Worries and Motivating Potentialist Set Theory

Abstract

Worries about commitment to an arbitrary stopping point for the hierarchy of sets are often used to motivate potentialist set theory. In some recent papers, Zeynep Soysal criticizes this kind of argument, and advocates a non-potentialist response to these worries. In this talk I will try to defend potentialism from Soysal’s criticisms.
